I’ve been interested in Beauty Boxes since the very first ones came out onto the market. As any of my friends will tell you, I am a beauty addict and one of my favorite guilty pleasures in the world is going into Sephora, filling my basket, and dropping the kind of money that could result in a call from my credit card company asking me if I think I swapped bank accounts with Lisa Vanderpump or something. Even though the idea of a beauty subscription service has always appealed to me, the hard reality of committing to spend $240 a year on makeup samples always made me wince. So when I found out Sephora Play! was only $10 a month – and came with the added incentives of Sephora beauty points – you know I jumped all over right away.
For those not yet in the know, according to their website the Play! box comes with “a curation of five deluxe samples handpicked from our shelves (plus a fragance bonus) in a collectable bag.” I received my box promptly on the third week of April.
The box came with the following:

PETER THOMAS ROTH WATER DRENCH 0.25 FL OZ
I was incredibly excited to see this in the box because I love the PTR Pumpkin mask and I’ve heard good things about this moisturizer before. YOU. GUYS. Peter did not let me down. My favorite thing about this mask is that it goes on heavy, giving you a unique “sinking into the skin” feeling, then dries to a satisfying finish. If you are looking for a higher end night moisturizer, I would definitely consider this.
SMASHBOX PHOTO FINISH PRIMER 1.0 FL OZ
I’ll be 100% honest with you – I do not understand the hype about primers. I get the concept behind them and I’ve come around to using one a majority of the time, but I have yet to find a primer that really wows me. This Smashbox primer was more of the same – serviceable, smooth finish, got the job done with little to write home about.
KATE SOMERVILLE EXFOLIKATE 0.25 FL OZ
This is my first Kate Somerville skin product and I’m happy to say I quite liked it. This product is a quick “mini facial” exfoliater that comes out the tube a rather…er…interesting pea green color. It contains natural exfoliants such as pineapple and papaya that you can feel rubbing away dead skin cells as you use it. Afterwards my face felt pleasantly tight. I would recommend trying this, although it does seem that some Sephora users report it causes certain skin types to break out.
MAKE UP FOREVER AQUA XL EYE LINER IN BLACK
I have to give it to this eyeliner – it will not budge. It dries dark, smooth, and smudge free. The only downside I can give for this product is that I really prefer liquid or gel eyeliners which make it easier to get the perfect “thin” wing for me. Otherwise, it’s a keeper.
DAISY BY MARC JACOBS 0.04 FL OZ
This Daisy sample came just in time for spring! It’s fresh, floral, and feminine in all the right ways. I normally don’t enjoy overly fruity or floral scents but Daisy strikes the balance in a really refreshing way. It’s a great daytime scent – perfect for outdoor brunch with the girls.
So that about wraps up my Sephora Play! Box this month! Comment down below if you have any questions or just wanna come join the discussion, and I’ll be back soon to review my May box!
